H2 2026 Pilot Initiative
Professional onboarding gets people in.
Social onboarding keeps people there.
UPWARD Rooted is an H2 2026 cross-organizational onboarding study exploring more intentional approaches to social integration and local connection for relocated professionals and their partners.
EXPERIMENT
8-week pilot
Cohort size
4-8 companies
Structure
Cross-company cohorts
Audience
Internationally mobile professionals (& partners)
Rhythm
Curated conversations & recurring gatherings
Location
Helsinki · H2 2026 (Aug–Dec)
Why this matters
Social life fuels professional life.
Help your relocated employees and partners find their people.
Demanding professional environments are sustainable only if an employee has adequate social reserves to draw from -- but the search for new social connections can be depleting in itself.
UPWARD Rooted gives your people a low-effort, high-return path for compatible local connection — so the professional investment you've already made actually stays in place.
CURRENTLY WELCOMING PILOT PARTNERS
Helsinki-based organizations invited.
Pilot experiences are open now. Partner capacity is limited to keep cohorts relevant and operationally impactful.
The 8-week pilot
Two H2 2026 cohorts.
Cohorts run across multiple organizations simultaneously — intentionally ecosystem-based, not isolated within a single employer. Participants are grouped based on mutual resonance, not just mutual circumstance.
Cohort One
Aug 24 – Oct 16, 2026
Helsinki · cross-company cohort
Cohort Two
Oct 26 – Dec 18, 2026
Helsinki · cross-company cohort
8-week structure
- Week 0
Onboarding & compatibility mapping
Participants complete Rooted onboarding; compatibility signals are mapped to inform early introductions.
- WEEKS 1–3
Guided low-friction interaction
Curated small-group experiences, conversations, and compatibility-informed connections.
- WEEKS 4–8
Reinforced interactions & ecosystem integration
Relevant meetings, recurring circles, and warm pathways into broader local social options.
Formats used across the cohort
Activities are understood as potential investments of limited time and bandwidth, and thus they're scheduled only after relational potential (i.e., mutual resonance) is identified — for higher returns on social investment.
Who UPWARD Rooted is designed for
Built for organizations who need people to stay engaged, not just stay there.
Pilot partners typically share one trait: they care about what happens to internationally mobile professionals after the relocation logistics are done.
Internationally hiring organizations
Teams investing in relocation, retention, and the social side of talent strategy.
Startup ecosystems
Hubs and accelerators with concentrated international talent and limited social infrastructure.
Coworking communities
Spaces whose members would benefit from more intentional cross-member connection.
Universities & research institutions
Programs supporting international researchers, postdocs, and graduate communities.
Relocation & talent mobility programs
Partners looking to extend support beyond logistics into sustained local attachment.
Ecosystem & community builders
Operators designing for meaningful, recurring connection rather than event volume.
The organizational problem
Talent strategies shouldn't end at the front door.
Organizations invest heavily in recruiting and relocating talent — competitive packages, professional onboarding, relocation logistics, housing support. The professional side clicks into place quickly.
But professional success becomes fragile when people lack meaningful support systems outside work. High-performance environments consume emotional, cognitive, and social energy. Sustainable performance depends on sustainable personal ecosystems — the part most relocation programs leave to chance.
Beyond housing, schools, and hobby groups, people need efficient ways to build compatible social systems that sustain demanding professional transitions. UPWARD Rooted fills that gap.
Why Helsinki?
The pilot begins in Helsinki - a city which attracts international professionals, but where meaningful social integration can be difficult for adults arriving later in life.
The shift
From social opportunity generation
→ to social opportunity optimization.
TRADITIONAL APPROACHES TO SOCIAL INTEGRATION
- —More activities
- —More events
- —More introductions
- —More participation
UPWARD Rooted
- Better relational fit
- Lower-friction interaction
- Compatibility-informed introductions
- Socially sustainable integration
UPWARD Rooted doesn't manufacture connection. It provides validated alignment filters and curated contexts that more reliably enable meaningful connections to form.
Live experiments
Live formats are already running.
The pilot is informed by ongoing live micro-experiments — salons, structured conversations, and warm-introduction formats — where recurring interaction between participants has already been observed.

What previous experiments revealed
- — Compatibility matters more than interaction volume.
- — Ambiguity creates social friction; structure reduces it.
- — Repeated interaction is what actually builds attachment.
- — Many adults do not lack social opportunity; they lack effective pathways toward meaningful local connection.
Early outcomes
Early signals from small-scale formats.
Repeated interaction rates after initial connection
Six-month social retention among active participants
These are early outcomes from small-scale experimental (2–6 month) formats and are not yet presented as formal longitudinal research, which will follow from the current study.
For the upcoming pilots, custom metrics and exploration areas include newcomer retention, local attachment, employee sustainability, ecosystem participation, recurring connection formation, and other validated compatibility and retention indicators, as requested by partner organizations.
Pilot partnership
Two pilot tiers, intentionally lightweight.
Current pilots are intentionally designed as lightweight yet impactful for both cohorts and their associated organizations. Simply register your participating employees (and/or partners), and they will be socially onboarded and supported throughout the pilot experience.
ORGANIZATIONAL TIER
€1.9K – €3.5K
For up to 5-10 participant seats.
ECOSYSTEM TIER
€6.5 - €12K
For up to 20-40 participant seats.
